Need little help fixing old desktop
Hi,
I need a little help fixing my old desktop. After I replaced the power supply and turned the pc on, there was a spark in the power supply. When I turn it on now the CPU fan spins for a second and nothing else happen, its like I get power for a second then it get cut off. Should I buy a new power supply or there may be something else wrong with it Thanks. |

sparks inside a power supply is never a good sign.
yes I belive that you may need to get another power supply, one that don't show sparks when you turn it on. |

Did you try using a generic power supply in a Dell 4100 or 8100 by any chance? If so, you just destroyed the power supply. Those models use non-standard ATX wiring and require a specific power supply.

The PSU to MOBO connector wiring configuration is not the same as the standard configuration.
If I remember correctly, there is a 12V wire in the Dell configuration where a 3V wire is in the standard configuration. Last edited by not important; 03-11-2009 at 07:45 AM. |
