help needed soon re build
Hi
I have searched the build forum for a few hours but cannot find something to help me. My comouter has crashed, so I need to get another asap. Due to my lack of cash I am asking for help. I would eventually like to make a good gaming machine, but cannot afford one at the moment. I would like to get a really basic tower system that can be "tricked up" in a months time, but I need to get my basic system now. I would like to get a motherboard that is capable of having 2 dvd drives, 4 USB ports, a very good video card and 2 gb of ram (expandable). Also would prefer one that I can get a better cpu later and just change them over. A good sound produced from the onboard sound, or if not the m'board must have capacity to ad a sound card. I only require 80 to 250 GB harddisc, which are the better brands to get? A dvd rom what is the most reliable brand and model? I have a small budget and am welcome to any advice (except I already know that if I spend more money I can get a better product, but if I had more then i would just get a complete system.) TIA Steve |

What part of your current computer crashed? If you need a working computer now, it may be simplest to replace the broken part. Also you may be able to use some of the working parts from your current PC.
To answer a few of your questions: DVD drive - Lite-On Hard drive: Western Digital, Seagate you also need to provide exactly what your budget is. |

Seagate is currently having some problems so go with a WD HDD. For a DVDRW, go with LG or Lite-On.

for the most bang for the buck I would recommend AMD system with a M4A78 PRO, a Phenom II X3 720, and 2X1 gig of your choice of compatible RAM. For a little more you could bump up to 2X2 RAM but we need an actual dollar amount to work with.

Thanks for your replies.
I am in Australia and at the mo our exchange rate is not very good. Have just bought a temp computer, but I still want to buy a good system. I will build it myself in stages and would like to know the better items to get which are not the newest things. I want advice of what case and power supply to get for a good cpu which can support 4 MB ram, a HDD, 2 DVD drives, one or 2 good video cards ans I would like some recommended motherboards for a good/decent/not obsolete or best of the best. cheers Stephen |
