building first pc, gaming, is this a good build?

This is my first time building a pc, are these good parts? They are from newegg. Im looking for semi-extreme performance. Some of it may see overkill but bear with me, its not just for gaming. Mostly I just want to know if its all compatible. Thanks for any help.

Those in the know seem to recommend the 3 piece RAM set for the i7.
I would suggest looking at one of the Corsair PSU's.

The Western Digital Caviar Black is a much faster drive than the Green:

Ye dude, 12GB ram, not many people currently need it and it wouldnt be worth it.
6GB will be plenty:

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I switched the ram and hard drive and its cheaper. Anything else you guy would recommend?

Also for the GeForce GTX 295 does it matter the brand? Because the EVGA is hard to get, it always out of stock. Will the other brands be good like the GIGABYTE?

No it shouldnt really matter on the brand(unless it seriously cheap, like Generic(in UK) or the website made ones) They are all usually reliable.

Okay then, about the ram , will I ever max out the 6GB ram with this setup? I do a lot of multitasking and game building (3D modelers) and I just want to be sure.

You might get close, but you should be fine.
It shouldn't lag as you have an 8-core CPU(well can be) plus 1333MHZ ram and that would be a decent and FAST set-up.

standard memory for 64 bit os
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148247

if you plan on over clocking...over clocking memory for 64bit os
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145224
this is also an approved memory for this system board, I would go with this if you want to be safe, obviously your over clocking...

you will love that case... sweet

there is nothing wrong. I was simply giving the poster a memory choice that would be compatible based on my recent experience. I didn't get a post with the memory you recommended, now thats not to say you were wrong in your recommendation but the company didn't have any help for me using the memory you preferred. I chose this memory instead based on their recommendation, they told me they would follow up with me within thirty days from March 3rd as to a direction in regards to compatibility. I hope this helps

Okay... I'm actually thinking about getting a different power supply with more watts, because later on I might want to do 2 GTX 295's in SLI, and I have also added another (os install/backup) hard drive to my list of parts.

Could anyone recommend me a good 1000W power supply from newegg?

Thanks!

Just curious if the upwards of $400 dollar case is really a necessity. I'm all for well engineered cases and those that look superb, but its seems as though you can build a cheap computer for that. Are you using up that $120 discount on the i7? Sorry if that sounds like I am attacking you or anything.

psu's that are certified for dual 295's: http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703020

That's extremely expensive. Would be easier, and cost less to just upgrade your video card every year. Heck, even every 6 months instead of spending that much.

unless you really have to have the biggest and newest GPU on the block, one 295 will last you for a couple of years. I can still run pretty much any game made on my HD 2600, granted i probably cant run crysis at max settings, but it would run. Its your system and what you want to get you will, but I agree that a $400 case is overkill. Over all the only recommendation I would make is a retail or OEM version of Vista instead of the system builders, but thats personal opinion.

I respect your opinion and agree with you if it were my money... but I have worked with one of those cases and I am here to tell you, there is nothing like it. Now, in reality, I build a higher number of budget pc's and the wow factor is greatly enhanced with such a case. I always take notes on all my builds and repairs, this case was a repair and I noted that this is a case that would last a lifetime and the airflow was second to none. The fit and finish were extreme quality and who ever designed this case, loved there job more than themselves. this was in my notes... for what it is worth

so far as I know, no. I use an OEM version of XP PRO and I have fully installed it on three different systems, not at the same time, with three completely different hardware configurations. system builders are locked to the hardware.

like i said its your system and you build in what ever you want. I use a $200 Cosmos but I got it for the size mainly. I was tired of creative wire placement in my mid tower and running out of space for drives and hardware. I like the air flow and sound dampening aspects but I didn't buy it for those reasons. I like the look of it as well, but again I didn't buy it for that reason.
