Building a Home Theatre PC... but ugly...

So I'm building a home theatre PC for my new house and I need some help.

First off, the computer will be located in the basement and I will be running an HDMI cable to my TV upstairs. So it can be ugly... This also means I need a solution for using a keyboard and mouse from a floor above. I also am looking to get an infrared remote as I will be using Windows Media Center to run my cable tv through as well... so here's what I need:

a) HMDI Output (Full 1080p)
b) Intel Core 2 Duo or Quad-Core
c) at least 4 Gigs of Ram
d) plenty of hard drive space and/or bays to expand as needed
e) TV Tuner (HD)
f) it DOESN't need to look pretty / will be out of sight
g) DVD Drive ... or if cheap... BluRay
h) Fast and Powerful Wifi Connectivity
i) Infrared Remote (some sort of solution that will work with the computer downstairs and me upstairs - maybe a really long wire i could put through the walls)
j) Mouse & Keyboard that will work from a floor away as well

Also, feel free to comment, if you think there's a better component or idea or anything...

I don't really see how you will me able to use a keyboard and mouse with the computer that far away.

Why not build a small unit and leave it near the tv? That would probably make it easier.

The rest of the build should be doable.

Is this a purely htpc? What is the budget?

Why cant you put the PC near the TV it will be used on? Im not gonna say controling the basement PC from above cant be done, but it sure makes this build way more complicated.

I have to agree with the others. Along with the keyboard/mouse problem, changing DVDs by running up and down stairs would get tiresome.
