New Build Check

About to build a new computer but before i order would like some comments on the hardware i picked out, if anyone knows of compatibility issues or anything. Help will be appreciated

CPU:Phenom II X3 710 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103648

Motherboard: Honestly having a hard time with this, if anyone has suggestions it would be helpful. Something relatively cheap, but not crappy. ATX preferred, and AM2+ as i dont want DDR3 at the moment.

Video Card: EVGA GTS 250 1Gig http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130469 If anyone has any comments or suggestions on this card feel free. Though i really dont want to go any higher on the video card.

PSU: BFG Tech GS-550 550W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817702010 Not sure, that might be more power than i need, if you think i can trim a few bucks with a different PSU. Not certain on BFGs quality.

HDD: WD 320Gig SATA HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136098

Optical: ASUS DVD burner (already have)

RAM: Have 2 gigs of Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800mhz. Will pick up another 4 gig kit later on, probably this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122

OS: Will be XP for now, will go vista premium later on.

Think thats everything, hope i didnt forget anything. Thanks for any help.

Dude, told you to get that combo deal last week, since then the price went way up. This board will do you just fine if you want AM3...

And if you want AM2+, this is a good one...

I would be hesitant on that PSU. 64 bucks is just a bit too low for a 550. If this was my PC I would certainly stretch this PSU into the build.

Its Enermax's newest offerings and has gotten exceptional reviews. Also first PSU to reach 90% efficiency.

Ok for the udates to it, after some research on the BFG PSU found some issues with the capacitors used.

Im gonna put my faith in a thermaltake. Use one now and seems solid to me. Thermaltake Purepower W0121RU 600W. Given the price is rather low but im not gonna be running any SLI or anything close, should be able to keep up with what i do. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153077

As for the motherboard i will go with that combo that was pointed out earlier. My mistake, thought it was listed as $293 not $193. So the motherboard will be Foxconn A79A-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX . This combo http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.165019 Though I will need to check to see if it will require a BIOS update to handle the newer Phenom II. If anyone has any comments, feel free.

Was looking around at video cards some more. Found a GTX 260 for about $5 more than the GTS250, after rebate of course. Hope all these MIR come back. Anyone know how much better the 260 would be compared to the 250? Heres the GTX260 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130464

For the PSU, you are much better off with something like this..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

Has 52A on a single 12V rail (very nice!), the thermaltake splits it up on 2 rails of 14A and 15A. The Corsair will give you much more stable, consistent, continuous power.

As for mobo, that combo deal is still pretty solid. You will need a BIOS update, version 782F1P06 or later, so you might as well go with the later which is version 782F1P07. Here is a link to the BIOS files....

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/EN-US/...d=en-gb0000261

Hope that helps....

Im rather curious though, how do i flash the BIOS for my CPU to work when the board wont support the CPU?

The PC should still run, just say an unknown CPU detected. The BIOS update will fix that.
