Two things.
This PSU would be a better choice. And for gaming, you really want to start at least at this level, although if you can stretch the budget, this would be a decent upgrade. Welcome to the Forums.

Thanks liam, i did think i was going a bit cheap with the graphics card althought $243 might be a bit too much of stretch on my budget. And i had no idea really when it came down yo the PSU, could you explain why the Corsair 520HX would be a better option then the Zalman?
Would it be that the 4x 12v connectors on the Zalman only output 16a each and the 3 on the corsair put out 18a each? |

How about this one? It about halfway between the two I listed beforein terms of performance:
http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...ducts_id=35796 If thats still a bit much, then I would go with the 9600GT I linked, can't beat its performance at that price (I own one). As for the PSU, it just come down to reputation and quality. I'm sure the Zalman isn't a bad PSU, but I don't know anyone that uses one. Many people I know use Corsair PSU's so I know they are high quality. They are fairly similar in power output and the Corsair is a tad cheaper. |

Corsair power supplies are made by Seasonic, and they have been winning awards. You cannot go wrong with one.

Thanks for the help guys. something i forgot to add in the original (rookie mistake) is i will need a better CPU fan as the one i have is junk i was thinking something along these lines but again i don't have really much of an idea http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...ducts_id=19666 and how many Case fans should i need because at the moment my PC has no case fan and it gets REALLY hot..??
Preferably from this page as its my local store; http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...page=1&sort=3a And a referral to a decent site that sells cases with the perspex side covers as the current case i have is a bit battered and i think it may not hold the new parts.. Just buy a new case that comes with a fan or two. That Zalman is an excellent cooler, but you don't need to spend that kind of money on one.

What made you go with the Zalman over the Corsair? The PSU is the single most important part of a PC and it ALWAYS pays to get a well known good quality one. The Corsair is cheaper so I can't see any reason to not get it.
BTW that looks more like an entire new build than an upgrade. Last edited by liambl; 03-19-2009 at 02:13 AM. |

yeah it is starting too look a little bit like a new build xD.
now the reason i went the Zalman over the corsair was i had another person i know who is extremely computer savvy rave about it when i showed him my build so finally i checked out some independent reviews on both of the PSU's.. when compared showed that the Zalman had a cooler running temperature under stress, the efficiency, noise/ripple and PF were very close the Zalman or Corsair only had slightly better in those. and the Zalman runs quieter. i based it on that and the fact that my dad is paying for %50 and when it comes down to it he will side the other guy.. and he prefers the Zalman over the Corsair.. |

I'm not as familar with all the parts you listed as the other guys but I am wondering about a couple of choices.
Where did you get your prices? Newegg has a WD Cavier Green 640Gb for $70.00 w/ free shipping. They have that case for $104. You might want to put together your build over on Newegg using their wish list feature and see how much you will save. A lot of guys here buy their builds from Newegg and are very happy with their service. Real easy to RMA stuff if it is bad or you just don't like it. There is a comfort zone in buying locally but you will save a lot of money, which can be used for more neat computer stuff, buy going on line. Why go with the WD Green drive? You can get the Black drive for about the same money and 32mb cache w/ 5 yr warranty. WD does not list the warranty for the green drives, even on their web site. If you are willing to spend over $1000 on a new build, why scrimp and use an old IDE hard drive and burner. You can get a much larger and faster 32mg cache SATA hard drive and new SATA burner for less than $100 more. You will find it much nicer not having to deal with ribbon cables. If you do go with your IDE drives, YES, you can connect two IDE devices to one cable and MB connection. Your new SATA drive will work just fine alongside the IDE drives.
