trouble installing w2k

this is not strictly a build problem but move it if you want too (didn't need to say that huh)
i have been trying to install w2k on an old compaq, the HD went south and i put an old small HD in and installed w2k just fine so i ordered a new 80 gig wd and the install goes fine until it comes to the part where it says press any key to continue (this is the second one) that you ignore and it is supposed to continue, well it just sets there, never goes on, i let it go for 15 or 20 minutes and nothing. this is and old cd, is it just wore out or is there another possibility?

Check the jumpering on the WD - you can't jumper a WD to master if a slave is not present. If it's the only drive on the cable, remove the jumper or use cable select if the cable supports it.

i tried removing the jumper, setting on cs , putting it on master and nothing worked so i took the 20 gig HD out of another computer set on cs and the setup went like it should, only thing i can think is that the new WD HD is bad or for some reason the old conpaq couldn't use a 40 gig. HD .

It's very possible it has a 32gb bios limitation if it's that old.
