cpu & mobo compatibility

was looking to get the p5kpl-cm and was curious. If i get a motherboard that does not have the latest bios, would the supported cpu which is listed still work?, or would you have to update to the latest bios to get the cpu to work properly

like for example from the asus cpu support:

Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.00GHz,1333FSB,L2:6MB,65W,rev.E0) ALL 0514

Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.00GHz,1333FSB,L2:6MB,rev.C0) ALL 0305

If you happen to get a bios version that is older than what is listed, then you may be able to still use that cpu to do the bios upgrade.

But it has been my experience with motherboards, that they usually come with the latest, or closest to lates bios version. (I buy from a big store where they would in theory not be keeping the bopards on the shelf for long periods of time, thus avoiding that problem. (Newegg))

More often than not, it will just boot up at failsafe speed and show an unknown processor.
