New PC

You can see from my info that my rig is old. I built it about 2000 I think. The ATI 9700 had just come out and cost me about $400. I upgraded to the 800, but couldn't see hardly any improvement. Anyway, I've bought some of the cheap "older" games for $10., you know the cheapo racks like at Staples, and my rig won't even play them. Now maybe it's that phys X card or something I need. I don't know. One of the games is Ghost Recon Advanced warfighter. It'll load but wont play. Now I've played Farcry, No One Lives forever 2, Half Life 2, Fear, Max Payne, all the MOH and Call of Duty games. But it won't play those cheap $10 left overs. The Ghost Recon requirments say; supported video cards at time of release Gforce 6/7 families, ATI Radeon 9600/9800 X families. Is the card the problem?
So, I'm considering a new build and was wondering how much it would cost to build one that would play the new games coming out now. (actually there isn't alot of them). I'm not interested in OC'ing at all. Don't care to get into any of that. I like building my own so as not to have all the crap that comes on a new pc. I would prefer to stay with XP too. I guess MS is going to support it for a few more years. Thanks for reading my rant.

I would like to say that while I was building first PC, I came here all the time for advice and probably couldn't have been successful without this site. Thanks.

What is your approximate budget?

Is this going to be mostly for gaming?

Do you already own xp, or will that be included in the budget?

Would you want to reuse parts like your hard drive?
