New buil won't install OS, CD Drive Problem?
Hey Guys, haven't posted in ages however I am helping a friend build a computer and we seem to having some trouble.
So the computer is assembled fine, we start it up and I go into the BIOS and set the boot order to: 1. CD Drive 2. Hard drive I disable the floppy (doesn't have one) and start it up, however it does not read the disk. It just says asks to install a hard drive with an OS on it. I'm thinking that the CD drive is not functioning and therefore not giving me the option to boot from CD to install the OS. Is there a key function we're not doing correctly to perhaps manually select it? Or is the CD drive toast. Thanks, Tom

make sure that the jumpers are set correctly on the back of the cd drive,
normaly on the new systems cable select is the correct one to use, also for the hard drive. |

Please list specs.
Try different cables, and differnt ports. Also, try a different disc if possible, or a different drive.

Tom, you have been around here long enough to know we need specs. We don't have a clue what you are working with - IDE or SATA? What motherboard? Brands and models..........
