Hi everyone I've been on a quest to upgrade my entertainment system to my dream system. This summer its finally going to happen I will be purchasing everything i list below. I want my htpc to hold my movie collection, pic collection, and music leaving my main rig free for gaming and school work. However I don't know exactly how to integrate it. I will be using a Onkyo 906 reciever to connect everything. Here is the part list for the htpc
htpc CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz ($225.00 USD at Newegg) Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-DS4H ($138.99 USD at Newegg) Memory: Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX (4GB kit) ($74 USD at Newegg) HDD: Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA-II ($159.99 USD at Newegg) Optical Drive: LG Black 6X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 6X BD-ROM 4MB ($179.99 USD at Newegg) Graphics Card: ASUS EAH4670/DI/1GD3/A Radeon HD 4670 (89.99 at newegg) Case: Thermaltake DH 104 Home Theater Case ($491.99 at amazon.com) Audio Card: ASUS Xonar HDAV1.3 Deluxe ($239.99 USD at Newegg) PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 700-watt Cable Management ($179.99 USD MSRP) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler ($59.99 USD at Newegg) TV Tuner: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 ($89.99 at Newegg) Keyboard and Mouse: Logitech diNovo Mini Remote/Keyboard ($149.95 USD MSRP) TOTAL COST = $2,079.86 USD I am open to suggestions on the system, the reason for the high end cpu is because I will be doing all ripping and burning from this pc not my main rig. What would be the best way to integrate that into the rest of the system which includes the following Samsung PN58A650 ($2,099.95 & bhphotovideo.com) Onkyo TX-NR906 ($1,472.57 at amazon.com) Belkin PureAV Hybrid AVU1500 UPS ($723.97 at amazon.com) Harmony 1100 ($382.43 at amazon.com) Total Cost- $4,678.92 USD Again I am open to all suggestions on this system thanks. |

for keyboard mouse, also consider this, it works great.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823166079 If you arent going to do heavy gaming on this PC, you dont need a video card. the onboard graphics will handle everything just fine. I have an older model of that MB I have run Blu-ray, stream hulu, regular DVD, and TV tuner all going at the same time with no problems. Unless you are going to overclock, the stock CPU cooler is fine. Also, I dont think you need a high end CPU to do ripping and burning, but im not an expert on that. Do you need the fancy Harmony remote and the fancy case with touchscreen? Antec makes some great, yet simple HTPC cases. I guess I am thinking you dont need to spend near that much money to accomplish your goals. |

I really like the case and really wanted one with a screen on it, but I'll take a look at some others. My dad has that remote and I just really like it.
I'm actually changing the reciver to the Pionerr SC-07 which is ALOT cheaper. I was reading about it and some guy made a really good point, he said everything he has is connected through hdmi as my set up will be except the wii, and I usually NEVER and i mean NEVER watch tv. everything i watch is downloaded or dvd. So the whole upconversion really would serve no purpose. I'm thinking about dropping the processor down to a much lower model also because your right for ripping, burning and encoding I really don't need that. Also that belkin surge protector is getting changed because its over kill, I have expensive equipment, but no where near even 50k so that thing is not needed. I will up date the list shortly. update Ok I changed the processor to a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050e (55.99 at newegg) and I'm gonna try the onboard vid processing and if needed then buy a vid card. I will get the tv tuner because when my girlfriend comes she wiill want to watch tv. Obviously I dont need the cpu cooler since this wont ever get overclocked so I'm not gonna get that either. I really, really like that case though so thats gonna be tough to change, It looks really great plus it has that nice 7" screen that I can use to show a slide show of pics lol. my total for the htpc is now 1,770.87 for the ht components Pioneer Elite SC-07 ($1,198.86 at pcrush.com) Belkin PF60 PureAV ($227.44 at amazon.com) that brings my av total to $3,908.68 Last edited by Prometheus; 04-04-2009 at 02:15 PM. |
