critique/modify build for first-timer
I am completely unfamiliar with what works well, but I did some research and I think everything I've gathered is compatible/decent, but I'd really appreciate some seasoned opinions. Feel free to make any changes or suggestions. The computer will be used to replace an ancient Dell Dimension 2400 and will undertake everyday, basic use and moderate gaming (though if it gets hardcore in the future, so be it!)

Newegg has better prices and customer service than tigerdirect; might want to take a look there for parts.
Here is a better build I would recommend for a smaller price; please feel free to ask as many questions as you need: LITE-ON 22X DVD Burner Black SATA Model iHAS322-08 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106286 $25.49 APEVIA X-CRUISER-BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144151 $79.99 Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136320 $69.99 GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128387 $109.99 SAPPHIRE 100265HDMI Radeon HD 4830 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102822 $89.99 CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006 $119.99 G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166 $52.99 AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor Model HDZ940XCGIBOX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103471 $214.99 Subtotal: $763.42 *Note, if you don't already have an OS, you will need to get one.

The build looks good, you might wanna go full tower on the case for future upgrades. I have the stacker-830 in black by CM and I wanna upgrade the case because I dont like how tight it is in there.
