Ddr2/3?

Is there any AMD Motherboards that support both DDR2 and 3? I'm asking because I'm trying to build a cheap upgradeable compy and I was thinking of going with a cheaper AMD processor and some DDR2 ram right now and then a few months down the line switching to an AM3 with DDR3. I doubt this is even possible, but it doesn't hurt to ask

I'm always a bit leery of transition motherboards. They seem to not handle either technology very well.

Anyone else have any comments on this? Are they all complete crap for the most part and I should just go with a ddr3 only motherboard?

And, I dont know if its just me...but those motherboards are straight up fugly. It may be stupid but I will choose a lesser board over a nicer one just because the nicer one has - in my opinion - an ugly color scheme.

For an AMD build, I wouldn't even bother with DDR3, the small improvement you get in performance cost you a decent bit in terms of money; not worth it in my opinion, especially since AM3 motherboards are not as stable as AM2+ motherboard (the AM2+ motherboards have been out for longer and have more BIOS updates and such). If you are sure you want to go AM3, wait at least until the Phenom II X4 955 BE comes out (that's the top of the line desktop processor from AMD; it will be compatible with both DDR2 and DDR3 and runs at 3.2GHz). In my opinion it doesn't make sense to upgrade a processor after only a few months of use; might be a better option just to wait a bit longer and use the extra money you would have spent on an inexpensive processor and use it on either a better processor or other part.

If you're going o build a new one in a few months..just wait.

Like flanzig1, I wouldn't get aboard that uses both types of ram.

And why would you care about what a mb looks like? It makes more sense to get something better that looks ugly. This way it works good, and is stable, and once it's in the cse, you won't ever have to see if it's ugly or not.

The price of a DDR3 board is about the same as a DDR2 board. At newegg at least, the price of some DDR3 is about the same as some DDR2 sets. If you are planning on an AM3 build then just spend a little more and make the switch to DDR3. you want a board that stays cool and does its job, not win a beauty contest.

Tripple channel 3 way RAM kits seem a good price for a 6 Gig Set. However, it would be nice to have a well supported 64 bit OS.
