help $400-$600 PC

I'm hoping to spend around 400 to 600 on a new PC for gaming. I just am having some trouble on where good cut offs are for parts. I'm also not sure at all where to go with a power supply or case, since I'm sure it depends on my other parts. I'm not sure if the MOBO I chose I could go cheaper on or should go more expensive. Actually, I also just realized the parts I have listed go over my budget already with a case and CPU added. I'd just like to know what to get at what price and where I can safely go cheaper at. 400-600 is my general range, I could go over it if its necessary, but I'd like to stay as low as possible.

Case: No idea?

PSU: No idea?

Mobo: ASUS P5Q SE PLUS LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Drive: Pioneer 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model DVR-116DBK - OEM (Would it be better to go with this one or the SATA version?)

CPU: Intel I assume? Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80571E7400

HDD: I want between 500 gb and 1 tb. Western Digital for the brand? I'm not sure how much the speed matters on a hard drive?

RAM: 4 gb DDR2. Corsair maybe? CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5

Video Card: Was looking at this one: SAPPHIRE 100245HDMI Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP, but I wasn't sure if it would make more since just to skip to the 1 gb for 15 bucks more. I'm not sure on the performance difference?

Keyboard: Don't need

Mouse: Don't need

Monitor: Don't need

That's a pretty good build, however the Athlon 64 X2 7750: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103300 provides more performance for the same price.

If you insist on going Intel, a E5200 with a P5KPL-CM will provide roughly the same performance as the X2 7750 and Gigabyte motherboard; both of these will provide performance close to that of the E7400 and cost a decent bit less. A direct competitor to the E7400 is the Phenom II X3 730: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103648.

Yes I agree that 7750 is faster, I just used the 5400s because I got an exceptional deal on them. I bought 200.
I think the 5400 or 7750 will out perform the E5200

You could cut the mobo back to a P5KPL-CM. I'd get a 500gb WD Black drive and a LG or Lite-On SATA DVD burner. Ram looks fine. You could cut that video card back to a HD4830 as long as your monitor is no larger than 22" with no problem. If you HAVE to, you could go with a E5200 for now.

Get a dirt cheap case without a PSU, and throw an Antec Basiq 500 in it. That's the most quality watts for the buck right now - 55 bucks free shipping at Newegg.

OK guys, thanks a lot! My monitor isn't bigger than 22". One thing is I'm not supremely worried about graphics (not a graphics whore I guess you could say?) especially since I'm used to playing L4D and TF2 in 640x480 and can't even play most higher end games. I just want something that's decent, runs SMOOTHLY and will last me for a while without being crappy in 6 months.

I'm gonna go start adding it up in Newegg. Thanks again, you guys were tons of help.

If you have to cut back on the graphics card even more, no big deal, you can always upgrade later.

Oh no, I stayed well within my range. Stayed under 450$, and free shipping on everything! That case with the psu Khalil suggested was sold out, so I got a random cheap case with decent reviews and the Antec Basiq 500 glc recommended. I went with the 7750 for the cpu because it looked like you guys were saying it was faster, plus I believe it was 10$ cheaper? If I missed something let me know. Here is a list of links of everything I'm getting, I'd just like to double check everything before I order.

DVD Burner
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827129032
$22.99

Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811156202
$39.99

HDD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136320
$74.99

Mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128383
$49.99

Video card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102804
$84.99

PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371004
$54.99

RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184
$54.99

CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103300
$59.99

Total: 442.92

Absolutely zero shipping! Is it just me, or is that ridiculous?

I didn't forget anything, did I? I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS.

I don't care for Pioneer burners - they seem to have some issues.

Honestly I was planning on using the burner to backup my brother's 360 games, and on a site for that they recommended that burner, plus the reviews looked better than ones of similar pricing around it. But, if you don't like them do you have one within about 10 dollars of that one that you would recommend, or just any LG or lite-on?

The computer runs great by the way! I had some difficulty with the mother board; the ethernet port didn't work. I just went out to the store and bought one for 12 dollars and it works great.

Anyway, the reason I'm posting is I ended up with a lot better job than I thought I would have and now have extra cash. I'm buying a new monitor first, but I figured I'd upgrade my video card and/or processor sometime in the near future. I'm just making sure my motherboard will be fine if I do this, and wondering at what point a better power supply and/or fans and cool systems are needed?

Edit: Also, it seems my onboard audio doesn't support surround sound? Does that mean I should just buy a cheap sound card? And btw, I'm not planning on buying the upgrades right away, but is there a usual time or season when its good to buy parts? Like fall, before christmas, after christmas, etc?
