Exclamation question....overclocking

I recently put together a pc for my grandson..I built it with misc. parts I picked up.an asus sli board, P4 dual core cpu, 4g ram.....this was my first build, and I know nothing other than attaching parts together...it works fine, altho I had a time with sli, and still don;t know if its right or not, but anyway, my gs asked if I could overclock the cpu..I am not a gamer or know anything about that sort of thing.
I was wondering if there is someone out there who will take the time and walk me thru a few things.. I have found out that there is more to building than just putting parts together, so this will be a learning experience for me as I do plan to build a newer, better machine..........Thanks to all who respond

I highly recommend you don't OC. Can be a big mistake, OCing is really for experienced system builders.

And, OC'ing put unnecessary stress on the hardware and voids your CPU warranty.

Tell him if he wants to overclock, do it himself, and if he screws it up you aren't going to fix it.
