Question Question about this build. Edited

Hi all. I put together this system and while i have no reason to doubt that it will work properly I wanted to post it to see if someone could review it and double check i didn't make an error that would screw it up. Although I currently won't be running in SLI I would like the option to be available if i decide to do it later. While I am aware that some things could be bought at other sites cheaper I am wanting to confine my choices to NewEgg. Thanks in advance for the help.

1. Okay.
2. Okay.
3. You sure you want a refurb? It's also old tech and VERY power hungry.
4. Okay, but see below.
5. Okay.
6. That's not a SLI motherboard, it's Crossfire.
7. No good, that's a server drive. Get a Western Digital Black.
8. No comment.
9. No good, get a Lite-On, Asus, or LG.

I would recommend you get an ATI card with the idea of Crossfire later. Nvidia no longer holds a clearcut gaming edge and ATI has always had a better 2D display. If you want to have the option of 2 video cards, that PSU isn't certified for very many combinations.

The following are the things that changed. My friend wants to keep the nVidia card and after reading your comment i adjusted the Motherboard and RAM for it. He changed his mind about wanting to do SLI so to save on money and headaches i changed the MB to only support one. Any suggestions about improving the airflow with fans? Thanks for the help glc and anyone else that help(s/ed).

The GPU you linked to is pretty much the same as in your first post; if you want to go with a nvidia card take a look at the GTS250 instead; it's smaller, more efficient and usually faster than the 9800GTX+: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130468
Both the 9800GTX+ and the GTS250 have the same sort of chipset, the GTS250 is a newer version that runs more efficiently.

If you want to go with ATI, a good card with pretty much the same performance (and lower cost) as the 9800GTX+ is the HD4850: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102824 (which is $90 after mail-in-rebate and promo code).

Cases are a personal preference but I would look for one with larger fans. That case seems to have a number of small fans that will make a lot of noise and won't move much air.
A good case with a 120MM fan in rear & front will usually be all you need.

Got it taken down Thank you for the reply. Safe to assume that the rest of the build would be good to go.

Go back to DDR2-800 ram. You do not need 1066 ram with that processor. I'd also stick with the original motherboard even if you are only going to use one video card. Also, the video card you NOW chose needs more power - get the 620HX. The 520HX doesn't meet specs, the card needs 580w.

Ok so the PSU i chose to go with in the end is This One its 650W slightly more than what you recommended as it also slightly cheaper. I went back to the original mobo and ram kept the recommended nVidia card from "not important" and changed the psu. I think I am good now.

That's a good power supply.
