First time build

This is my first post as a new member and my first attempt at building a pc. Im looking to build a gaming/multimedia computer that can handle the most demanding games and games to come in the near future. Ive been reading through the forums and and figured id start composing a list of parts and than see what you guys thought. Id really like to get this project started asap because its something im very excited about trying. Im not too concerned with the money. This hobby can't be as expensive as my cars were. And finally my list of parts.

Case : Antec Twelve Hundred Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Psu : Antec CP-850 850W Continuous Power CPX SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

MoBo : Looking at one of the Asus P6T X58, not positive which one i need.

CPU : Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920

HDD : Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM

RAM : G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ

LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model GH22NS30

EVGA 017-P3-1294-AR GeForce GTX 295 1792MB 896 Bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Need help choosing a sound card. And anything else you think i may have missed. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Cerc

The build looks spot on to me

You don't need a sound card. On-board sound is perfectly good for most. Try it, then if its not good for you, buy a sound card.

Looks good.

Don't forget the Operating System.

I would go with this since it's cheaper than the other asus boards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131386

And I would look at a smaller case, but that's a personal choice. I would look at the antec 300, or if you want a bit more room and fancy, the antec 900.

Of course, depending on what you do when you say multimedia, you could save money by getting a fast dual core and just ddr2-800 ram and still have a gaming system that will own. Gaming systems depend on the video card more than the processor.

That's going to be a handful for a first time builder.
The i7 is unstable, quirky and really more for advanced system builders.
Even though the video card is good it is not as fast as the ATI 4870X2
If you have not yet bought this system I recommend you consider a Q9550 with an LGA775 as your first build otherwise seek professional help with the i7.
It's your money though, just my opinion.
Good luck.

i7 stuff is all PLUG and PLAY.
It's unstable and quirky if you are trying to achieve some kind of radical overclock.
I'd go with a SAPPHIRE HD 4890 video card - or two.
Forget the ANTEC PSU and go with one by PC POWER & COOLING or CORSAIR.
