First build. Suggestions appreciated. Will be using Windows 7 64 bit.

These are newegg prices. I have downloaded the 64-bit Windows 7 RC, which I've heard good things about. If everything goes well, I intend to buy the retail version when the RC expires June 2010.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions / problems with what I've got.

Go with SATA with the optical drive. IDE is really obsolete and there's no point to using it unless you have a motherboard-bound condition, which you don't.

WD HDD's are pretty well-liked here. I would recommend the Caviar Black. The larger cache gives near-Raptor performance for a fraction of the cost. The smallest is 500 GB for 69.99.

BFG is a great video card brand. Be warned, however, that you will not be able to go SLI with the motherboard you're looking at. If you'd like multi-GPU capability for later on down the road, I'd suggest looking at the ATI Radeon HD 4890 or 4870. The 4890 is a beaut.

You are spot on with the CPU. Get it a nice aftermarket cooler, though. Zalman's are incredibly efficient, but you pay for it.

I can't comment on the power supply.. Go Corsair?

Great case. Cable management is going to be a bitch, however.

The P5Q Pro is a very stable motherboard with a good set of features as well. Others here can attest to that as welll.

DDR2 800 will serve you well, but if you find that you have a little extra cash you might want to consider going DDR2 1066. Corsair makes great RAM.

Looks pretty good.
Go with a power supply by PC POWER & COOLING or CORSAIR. High amp single rail.
WD BLACK drives are really good. I like the ones that I just started using. They are some fat, heavy drives - make my Seagates feel like empty cans. They are very cool runners considering how hefty they are.
HD4890 or one of the 4870s will be a great choice in a video card.
If you are going to overclock go with some Corsair Dominator. If not, those should work just fine.
ZALMAN is good.
Thermalright is better, but you can't lose with either.

I would also really look at doing two 4770's in CrossFire. They're built on the new 45nm tech and are unbeatable for $200-220.

I like everything you chose, good hardware and you will get excellent bang for your buck. I agree with Scuderia, SATA optical is the way to go and ATI is the way to go but 1 4790 will out perform 2 4770s. Sorry Scuderia.

Yeah? I have no personal experience with 4770's, but from what I've read they're right up there.

Until you hit the memory bandwidth wall.. Whoops, you're right.

I dunno why I'm even recommending two 4770's. I can sure as hell attest to the kickassery (new word) of the 4890.

Thanks for the responses. I'll switch to the SATA optical, and check out the ATI gpus and power supply by Corsair.

Are you going to overclock? If not, go back to your original ram. No need for ddr2-1066 otherwise. ddr2-800 is perfectly fine for a stock system, and will provide a slight bit of room for overclocking as well.

Put it together last night, first outside the case, as recommended here, then in the case. First build, so it took a while to figure a few things out (motherboard manual was great - power supply and video card manuals were terrible - not that you should need those two) ... but got it all done with no hitches. Windows 7 runs great, and there were absolutely no problems with any of the hardware. The Antec 902 seems to keep things very cool. Thanks for all the help here.
