Compaq case/ hard drive access
hi, I am trying to remove the mfgr installed hard drive (200gb) in a Compaq sr1750nx to replace with a Hitachi 1 tb. Tho I did read carefully the Compaq case directions, I cannot get the installed hard drive out of the case!
It appears to have 2 holding screws on the far side of the case, which I cannot get to even after removing the side and front covers, since it still leaves a L shaped case cover which covers the hard drive's "dark side". And tho I have held up the plastic green colored case module for the drives and tried to slip it out (forward), it will not pass the first screw installed. Is there another way to get at this drive - or some brute force method I don't presently see? I appreciate your help on dealing with this case! |

Compaq case/ hard drive access

Well, reading the same directions again did not help. The drive will not pass over the retaining carrier with the screws installed in it...IMHO. Is there another way to get at this drive - or some brute force method I don't presently see? |

Let's keep the discussion civil please, DD5 is just trying to help. Compaq never designed cases to be easily disassembled.
Post a photo if you can, maybe it would easier for us to help you that way.

Look at page 8 in this manual. (Page 8 in the pdf viewer but page 4 in the manual.)
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00311113.pdf Lift the plastic locking clamp and push the drive into the interior of the case a bit. Then grasp the drive and remove it the rest of the way toward the interior. |

Thanks all for the help. It has been a frustration, for sure.
Having no luck with the proper or correct way to pull the drive, I wound up taking it, screeching all the time, out the front once the lock was free/opened....one screw popped loose, and there was a significant bang from the plastic or metal - or both - but it came out - under protest. Afterwards, the drive can go in or out easily, with the lock working properly. Who can figure? I'm very glad its done, and I appreciate that I know the proper and improper way to pull a drive out of the Compaq's case! I'd guess I'm not the first, or last , to pull the drive the way I did! Perhaps we should wager as to whether the drive still works! The "new" drive is working fine. |
