Can you please list the parts, make and model, including the power supply.

Have you cleaned out the dust?

Could be a faulty power supply - would be my bet.

Does it beep like hell when it turns itself off? - could be overheating and shutting down to stop permenant damage to the cores.

My bet is on the PSU. I've gone through hell trying to make crappy, overwhelmed PSUs not kill the rest of my PC. My efforts weren't good enough on one occasion and it fried the 4 pin connector to the mobo. Good stuff.

My suggestion: Get a new PSU. 500W should be right up your alley and Corsair makes superb power supplies.
The 520HX is great, and, as a plus, it's semi-modular.

650 watts is fine but who is the manufacturer?
I don't know what's available in your country but check this list : What Power Supply should I get? How many Watts? Who made it? Guide Inside

Good deal on the 650W Corsair but the rebates suck. They send a credit card, that involves a lot of hassle to activate before you can use it, good for the purchase of Corsair products in lieu of a check.

I like the FSP 600W:

As pam123 and Not Important say, just make sure you have enough wattage, but the biggest thing is quality.

If you don't have a quality PSU then your wasting your time on wattage. Quality is key.

Let me rephrase that - you can get a quality 300 watt for $25 USD. If it's $25 AUD it's garbage regardless of the power.

There is no way to make sure without substituting known good components. The PSU would be just one of the main suspects.

Coolermasters are okay. You don't need 500 watts with that rig but it wouldn't hurt.

The 430w Thermaltake, if it's the one I'm thinking of, is based on an old design and isn't really an ATX 2.0 unit. The Asus looks very good.

Did you ever successfully complete an installation?
Sounds like it's missing the bootloader.

The Bootloader runs right after your computer turns on, and is responsible for starting the OS itself.

Let me get this straight, you set your CD drive first in the boot order, put the CD in the drive and reboot, and the first thing you get is this error? It never tells you "Press any key to boot from CD" or anything?

Try wiping the hard drive with a zero fill program like dban.

It can be found on http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

BOOTMGR sounds like a Vista thing.

Download UBCD, get the ISO version, then burn the ISO to a CD. You do this with a program such as Nero, you choose burn CD from image, and point it to the ISO. Then you boot with the CD. DBAN is in hard drive utilities, wiping utilities.

Totally free. If you burn the ISO correctly, it makes a BOOTABLE CD.
