Very basic question
Thinking of building my own with my son. Can I assume when all is said and done, that you can't use a wireless key board and mouse when first booting up?

Best to use a wired kbd and mouse until you get everything installed. Some operating systems will see the wireless right away but it's not worth the hassle to find out, imo.

It depends on the hardware.
Like the other techs here, when setting up a system for the first time, wired it is.
