After Build Display Troubles
So I've gotten my newly PC to work but the display only works part of the time. I've been able to configure all of my BIOS settings and even install Ubuntu and then get back into it with all my settings the same. The problem is that when I turn the power off and then try to turn it back on it has problems. I usually have to mess with the CMOS jumper on the board, changing it between between the original position and then no jumper at all, it has a better chance of working with no CMOS jumper. When it brings up a display everything works fine, when it doesn't bring up a display everything has power and all the fans work, cpu and video card fans included. I've checked and reseated the video card, RAM, and the cpu a couple of times and I am pretty sure that everything is seated properly. Any input you guys could provide me as to what's wrong would be greatly appreciated, all my specs are listed below.
XION Onyx ATX Mid-Tower Case Apevia 680W Power Supply Intel BOXDP45SG Motherboard Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 CPU (2.66 GHz, 1333MHz, LGA775, 4MB cache) Patriot Memory DDR3 RAM (1600MHz, 2x2GB kit) GeForce 9400 GT Graphics Card ( PCI-E 2.0, 1GB DDR2) WD Caviar Green 640GB Hard Drive Samsung DVD/CD Burner with LiteScribe Sabrent USB 2.0 High Speed Internal Card Reader |

Oh and I forgot to mention, I've gotten this error a couple of times, "CMOS Battery Failure".

Is that error message when you have no jumper? I think that would be normal. If you are getting that message when the jumper is in the 'normal' position then replace the battery.

Make sure your power supply is off and the power cable unplugged before you mess with the battery on the motherboard.

The CMOS error only comes up when it successfully shows a display and the jumper is not on. And also I just went and got a new graphics card and the same thing still happens so I'm pretty sure that it's not that. Do you think that this could be a CPU or a Motherboard problem?

This has me abit confused.
By "NOT ON" do you mean not installed on the pins? Or not in the NORMAL position?

Not on the pins at all. When the jumper is on and not in the normal position then it won't start up at all.

Page 54 in the manual (which can be found on the CD that came with the motherboard or can be downloaded from Intel):
Bios jumper must be over pins 1 and 2 for normal operation. Removing the jumper puts it in the Recovery mode, which is only to be used after a failed bios update. Over pins 2 and 3, it will boot into maintenance mode. 1600 speed DDR3 is not compatible with that motherboard. You are also playing with fire using an Apevia power supply, but that's not causing this issue. |

Ok, so I replaced the memory (Consair DDR3, 2x2GB, 1333MHz) and that seems to have work. I can power it down and it starts the first time no matter how long it was powered down. I haven't tried powering it down and then turning off the PSU but I'll do that tonight and I'm pretty confident it will still work. Quick question though, someone said that I was "playing with fire" with the PSU I have, why? and should I get a new one? Also what audio card would you recommend to go on my mobo and work with ubuntu 9.04 (64 bit)? Thanks for all of you help.

Apevia power supplies are cheaply made and are not very reliable.
Doesn't the onboard sound work? |

Apparently this board doesn't like when the front panel audio cord is plugged in, but when I disconnected that the audio now works. So never mind about the audio card.
