To Build or Not To Build?
Well, okay, I haven't built a computer before, so this is also a "virgin computer builder post I guess."
Well I currently have a Dell Optiplex GX270 with the following specs (it was upgraded before I bought it): 2.4ghz Intel P4 Processor 512MB RAM Intel Integrated Graphics 2 Hard Drives: 40GB, and 150GB DVD and DVD-RW drive (bought in 2006) So, I have a little dilemma here. I can either choose to build a new computer in general, and just use this one as a media server, or upgrade this one to make it better. I'm not sure what to do, because I'm not sure how big my computer budget is going to be, and this computer is already somewhat decent. So, do you guys think I should keep what I have, and maybe upgrade the RAM/Graphics Card/buy an external HDD, or just build a whole new computer in general? Thanks. |

Build a new one. Dells do not lend themselves to upgrades well at all. You can upgrade the ram, and you can upgrade the hard drive, but a video card upgrade will require a power supply replacement - assuming you can even put a standard power supply in that box (you can NOT assume that).
If you want to play games, or do heavy video work, forget the Dell, build a new one with the right components for the job. |
