Hey all !!!
Ermmm, New PC? Im not really excited because building one is confusing me and my budget is really LOW ! Can I build new desktop by 800$ ? a friend told me that he just build one for gaming within that budget and it does have a Quad core inside it ... So, Anybody can help me ? This new build will be used for gaming but mainly rendering some 3DS stuff which needs powerful CPU, massive amount of RAM and good Graphic card. my current machine really pissing me off because it limits my capabilities. So, I cant wait and really want one as cheap as 800$ and something to survive at least 2 years of happiness (or till economy gets better )so, I will be waiting for ur help! |

What parts can you salvage from your current set up ?
Monitor, keyboard, drives, case, power supply? Do you have a retail copy of the operating system? If you have an OEM machine, Dell or HP or one of those, that you haven't upgraded you may not get much but the fewer parts you have to buy the more you can put into processor/memory/vido card. On a tight budget your best bet is a quad core Phenom but we can tell you more when we have some idea of what you'll actually have to buy.

Motherboard brands thread http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=207564
Video Card Brands thread http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=207566 Power Supply brands thread http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=208143 For $800 you can build a very nice AMD Quad Core computer. Are you using the XP64 on the old computer? If you are you can't use it again on the new machine. If you want AMD I will gladly help you with with a list of parts, if you want Intel, I will let someone else help you with that.

AMD or Intel .. hmm , most of ppl recommended Intel , can AMD Quad Core do better than Intel ? whether it can or not I would like to have a look at the new system as long as it will cost the 800$ !! (its weird that ur signature says 9600+ system built .. all of them are AMD ? interesting ) one sec , why i cant use my current OS on the new build ? |

No the 9600 machines are not all AMD as a matter of fact and unfortunately 60% are Intel. You can't re-use a Micro$oft OS that is already being used unless you deactivate the first machine. Is Intel better than AMD? nope!
Why more people are recomending Intel? It is called billions of dollars of advertising (brain washing). Both AMD and Intel are superb products if you are looking for a Quad Core either Intel or AMD will do the job it all depends on how much you want to spend. If you go with Intel make sure and pick a motherboard that has an Intel chipset. I highly recommend you read some of the threads on this forum regarding building systems, you will learn a lot. |

Khalil only says "unfortunately" because he has a gripe with Intel's business practices. I have a gripe with the supporting chipsets for AMD processors. |

Here is an example of a solid AMD Quad Core build that will fit your needs:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103291 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103471 .. I would like to have a higher clock speed , unless there is cons and I must avoid .. (leave OS for later, I will see what I can do , maybe I will get xp 32bit for old one and use my 64bit for the new .. ) |

Again both Nvidia and ATI make excellent cards however ATI currently has the upper hand for gaming. Here is how you do your comparing.
NvidiaGTS250=ATI4850 Nvidia GTX260=ATI4870 Nvidia GTX275-280=ATI4890 but ATI is gaming better than Nvidia, either way it is your choice, both brands will work for you. |

Khalil helped me build an AMD system for around $430 including shipping and I'm very happy with it. For a few hundred dollars more, I'm sure his recommendations will get you a very nice PC. My computer has been able to handle any games, and the ones I mostly play (left 4 dead and team fortress 2) at high resolutions and settings. I've also done some 3D rendering. I think the parts he listed will make you very happy with your rendering software.
