Upgrade spec - please check

Hi guys, long time no see/hear/post

Anyways to cut a long story short I had a little disaster earlier today with my current system (in my sig) as one of the heatsink retaining clips has snapped and since budget can stretch far enough this month I've decided some upgrading is order of the day.

So a list of the spec's can be found in the link below (along with product links)

BudgetBuyBuild.com Spec #1405

I'm planning on re-using the PSU, hard drives, case etc as its all still in good condition. Unfortunately the graphics cards I already have arn't DX10 compatible so they are coming out and as I dont do that much gaming now a single card should be sufficient.

Cheers

D

The Q8400 is a wimpy processor. Go for a Q9550. You don't need DDR2-1066 ram, DDR2-800 is sufficicient. You don't need that CPU cooler if the processor is a retail box version. If you aren't hard core gaming, just reuse one of your 7900's.

Cheers GLC

OK, ive amended that list, gone for the Q9550 as you recommended, since i still want to allow for some decent gaming experience think i'll stick with the card as im going for vista and my current cards dont support DX10.

For new spec click the original link and scroll down to history then latest spec and it will show amendments.

cheers

Why don't you just wait for Windows 7?

If you insist on using that DDR2-1066 ram, make SURE it's on the Asus QVL for that motherboard.

Do you really need more case fans?

If you don't already have Vista, I'd download and use the Windows7 release candidate, pending the release of official Windows 7.

Oops, forgot to update the ram, now changed to Kingston HyperX 2x2GB PC2-6400

The fans are to replace the existing ones which are a bit grotty and I couldnt get to clean up well enough for me to be happy to re-use, I used be a smoker and they are full of nicotine, thankfully thats a thing of the past

OK, made a few more alterations, as per everyones recommendation about going for windows 7 rc for it i've free'd up £160 extra so changed the processor, ram and motherbord.

http://www.budgetbuybuild.com/specmanager/1633/

that should be the latest spec list, please have a look and if all looks nicely in order i'll place the order for the parts

Cheers for all your help so far guys, don't know what i'd do without you lot, its been far too long since I put a PC together
