Upgrading My Build

Hey Guys,

I am looking to upgrade my computer.

The main parts I wish to upgrade are my motherboard, processor, Video Card, and Memory. I would rather not grab a new HDD, disc drives, or full tower if I do not have too. But I have questions as to whether the remaining parts will still be compatable...mainly the power supply.

Please let me know what your opinions are on this. This is a gaming PC, will this be enough to keep me going for another 5 years or so?

The Current motherboard I have is MSI MS-7142 (K8MM-V) Mainboard

I would like to upgrade to Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair II Formula AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 780a SLI HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

The current Video Card is an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO

I would like to upgrade to Video Card’s: EVGA 017-P3-1295-AR CO-OP Edition GeForce GTX 295 1792MB 896 (448 x 2)-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

The Current ram is 3 gigs.

I would like to upgrade to Memeory: mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 996599 - Retail

The Current PSU ASPIRE ATX-AS520W.

I would like to get PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail

With the CPU and video card you selected, your going to need a better PSU. Look for a Corsair,Antec,FSP in the 650w range. That Aspire is probably not compatable with PCI-E and today's motherboards.
The rest looks good but will let the AMD guys comment on the CPU/motherboard combo.
If your drives are IDE and have more than 2, you will need to go to SATA. Today's motherboard generally support 2 IDE drives and with 3rd party controllers
so they can be hard to get to work.

That GTX 295 is a monster, built a machine for a client recently with one of those, the FPS was off the charts but man is it expensive.

Added it to my list. Now i shouldn't have any other issues in regards to compatibility.

Here is a question in regards to the heat coming off of my current pc....It gets really warm. I have seven fans in the tower itself and then one on the card, cpu, and PSU. This thing puts off a ton of heat. Is there a way to maybe minimize this through my upgrade?

Does that baby come with only one card or is it a combo? I want to eventually use the SLI functionality of my board so I want to have two of the same card. (Maybe not right out of the gates unless it comes with two.)

Let me put it this way, there is absolutely no reason, none what so ever to get 2 x 295s, complete waste of money in my opinion. If you want 2 cards then go with 2 x 275s However the 295 will probably still out perform them.

Noted seem awfully confident about that. I will take your word for it then.
