New Intel i7 PC

Hey guys, I always lurked this site to find recommendations for PC parts and I recently decided to sign up to get your opinion on my PC build.
I am new to computers so if you guys can recommend a better part than I will be thankful.
I would also like to know if it compatible, I have no idea how to check if it is compatible.
Thank you.

Most people here will recommend not building an i7 as your first build. It's not the most stable chipset Intel has had.

You don't need a 1000W PSU. Corsair is a good brand, though. And I would go with a Western Digital Caviar Black HDD.

You're also going to need a video card.

Oh, I thought I included a video card, but I clearly did not.

The PSU is one I'm planning on holding onto for a long time, and I will consider the WD Black HDD.

Thank you for your reply and I will get looking for a video card.

[Edit] Any suggestions for a video card? And NCIX builds the PC for me [/Edit]

If you must go with an i7 then make sure and get an Asus. Evga has no business making motherboards.

Unless you're planning on utilizing that 3-way SLI (which again, everyone here would recommend against), that PSU will fail long, long, long before you would ever need 1000W.

edit: Why isn't my sig showing up.

Alright, so I chose this video card:

EVGA GeForce GTX 275 633MHZ 896MB 2.26GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...5&promoid=1078

Changed HDD to:

Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200RPM 32MB Dual Proc 3.5IN SATA Hard Drive OEM 5YR Mfg Warranty
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...6&promoid=1078

Gigabyte EX58-UD4P ATX LGA1366 X58 DDR3 3PCI-E SATA2 Sound GLAN 3-WAY CrossFireX SLI Motherboard
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=35757

And I have no idea how to shop for a PSU, any suggestions?

That card requires a 550W PSU, so I would pick the Corsair model of your preference between 600W and 700W.

Also, keep in mind that using a HSF other than the stock HSF that comes with your CPU will void your warranty. It's also unnecessary unless you're doing a very significant overclock.

Hey

Either motherboard will be OK, but, from what i've noticed the Gigabyte boards (x58) in general have been alot less bugged with intel chipsets.

If i was choosing I would pick the Gigabyte.

And I'll add that I have had zero issues with my ASUS P6T Deluxe and am absolutely loving it

If you do go ASUS, may want to spring for the deluxe.

Yeah, I think I'll go with the gigabyte just because of the price and since a close friend recommended it.

Thanks everyone who helped me build this.

Now, how do I give rep?

Wrong!!! Asus is the way to go, I tried a few of the Gigabyte X58s and they are total crap! Please try and take advice from the seasoned pros on this board.

Sorry you have had a bad experience with gigabyte, I have been mostly using asus boards too. But ever since the release of 965p asus boards have been heavily bugged consistently, especially with early bios revisions.

I have had a 975 asus board and Asus 965 that have given me nothing but issues in the beginning, and a gigabyte which has been rock stable, even at extreme overclocks, which is my main concern.

Not only that but asus has terrible cs service whenever ive called them about boards and graphic cards. One time I got a faulty replacement back. It looked refurbished.

Also with the release of x58 gigabyte has had many more stable bios revisions compared to the asus p6t counterpart. Asus gets it right eventually but not since the release of 965p have they gotten it right off the bat with the bios imo.

I really dont think choosing either one would be a problem. Not saying the asus is bad, it is a safe choice for the OP. I was just being picky.

Neither is a bad choice buddy. If you feel more comfortable with the Asus GO for it.

Just trying to say that Asus is not the end all be all with the newer intel chips

Good luck your build looks good

Asus support is 100 times better than Gigabyte, I have stated in the past that Gigabyte are good when they work but when they fail is when you get all the run around. Asus is a phone call away and you have an RMA number, they don't hide behind web support and emails.

I recommend Asus because of reliability and support, I think the admin and moderators agree with me. No.good I would give myself a little more time on these forums before voicing yourself as an expert and you are giving people bad advice.
That link about Asus support is absured. I have bought thousands of Asus boards and I know for a fact they make the best boards and offer the best support.

Newer Asus boards are usually stable boards under regular operation for normal users. Still nothing compared to the rock solid stability and quality of the older ones.

This is seen with the newer asus boards for i7 using poorer quality materials, that is a FACT. The gigabyte includes 2oz. copper in the PCB, all solid caps, less buggy bios etc. Asus still haven't fixed the turbo throttling issue on their new boards.

BUT asus support is something that I RARELY hear anything good about now. From my own experience and with other forums, Asus RMA and customer support nowadays (past 1 year or so) is a subject of much flaming. Gigabyte is not perfect in this area either. But there is a reason why the overclocking community is slowing moving towards gigabyte, and yes this is something that is irrelevant in this situation.

The last truly extraordinary Asus board was the P965 Commando..

I didnt mean to derail the thread- sorry OP. Ill end my input on this thread now.

It is not about disagreement, it is about what is right and what is wrong. Stating that an inferior product is as a good as the superior product and actually recomending it to people is not right!
