Problems booting up several year old custom built PC
I recently started having problems booting up my custom built PC. I built this PC about 3 years ago. Basically, when I power it on I hear a light steady beep that does not go away. The ASUS motherboard screen flickers until I eventually see a hard drive failure message. It looks like the BIOS chokes on Auto Detecting the SATA drive. I tried switching the hard drive out with a new one and I still get the same issue. I was able to switch out the power supply with an extra one I had lying around. Again, I still get the same problem but I can occasionally get the system to boot up correctly if I try powering up several times. I've also tried updating the BIOS from the ASUS website and stripping the system to the bare minimum components. Nothing has worked consistently. Any ideas?
