Simple budget Linux build

Please let me know if there's a cheaper case for this machine & if this will work nicely to run Firefox, file server, and word processing.

MOBO - Intel BOXD945GCLF2 Atom 330 Intel 945GC Mini ITX Motherboard/CPU Combo - 84$
Case - Rosewill RC-CIX-01 BK Glossy Black Steel Cube Mini-ITX Computer Case with 150W Power Supply and 1x 80mm Fan - $60

I already have the Ram, HD, CD-DVD.

OS = Ubuntu

Total - $156

Cheap or not I would not recommend a Rosewill power supply at any capacity. You still need RAM and a hard drive.

No good, that case has an Allied PSU. Stick with the Intel board if you want mini-ITX.

Power supplies are pretty much an afterthought in mini-ITX. You would probably be safest getting one of the HEC cases.

Have you priced an entry level conventional computer?

I dont think that a conventional computer will beat a self-build linux box.. if you have something on your mind than out with it.

Sorry I wasn't more detailed - I was referring to building with standard components instead of mini-ITX. We are quite anal about power supply quality here, it's more important than most people realize for a stable, reliable system.

Example:
Asus P5KPL-CM
Pentium E5200
FSP 300 watt PSU

Pick any old cheap case that you like, as long as a standard ATX power supply will fit. Something like this Rosewill would work fine. If you want to spend less on a processor, there are Celerons that are cheaper than the E5200.

I really like these Celeron Dual Cores Combined with that Asus glc suggested. Those Atom processors are slow even for regular internet use, when running them with Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 they lag terrible. The 945GC chipset is obsolete too.

The E5200 is only $12 more than the E1500 - it's both 0.3 GHz faster and has 4x more cache.
