Help with new build; no beeps during POST
I have a ASUS M4A7BTE and AMD X3 720
The PSU is an Antec EA380 The HDD is Caviar blk The RAM is 4GB GSkill DDR3 I'm reusing my older IDE DVD drive. I double checked the seating of the CPU and plugged in CPU fan. I plugged in the keyboard, mouse, speaker (green port) and monitor to the MoBo connections (onboard video) I connected both the 24 pin and 4 pin power to the mobo. RAM is installed in DIMM A1 and B1, HDD is plugged into SATA1, DVD is plugged into the IDE port System panel connectors are in place. When I plug in the power and turn on the PSU I see the Mobo light up, upon pressing the power button, the CPU fan and aux fans turn on. The monitor is on stand by and the mouse (usb laser) and keyboard have no power. Don't think the mobo recognizes the monitor, keyboard or mouse. The POST fails as I do not hear any beeps. I tried to clear the RTC in the CMOS by unlpugging, switching the jumpers for 10 seconds then switching them back and firing up again. Also tried removing the battery to reset the CMOS. No dice. The steps I posted above were done with the mobo installed in the case and with the mobo sitting on my desk. Any help would be greatly appreciated. T |

You won't hear any Post beeps thru the external speakers, only thru a speaker connected to the front panel connectors on the mobo. Some mobo's come with a speaker installed, some don't. Same with cases. What brand and size power supply are you using?

Sorry, missed the psu. It was late. Please reread my comment about the external speakers. Connecting them will do nothing for you until the system is running with an operating system and drivers are install for the sound. The external speakers have nothing to do with the internal speaker.
Take a look at page 2-35 in your motherboard manual and you'll see the speaker connector that is part of the System Panel Connector. It's called the "System warning speaker". Last edited by Panama Red; 07-22-2009 at 08:21 AM. |

I'd unplug them just in case. They're not doing anything at this point, and the computer should just be ignoring them.

Well my machine is working now!
I guess it was late and I was tired that led to my error. In any case I tried to power up with only the monitor connected. Once that was successfull, I began to add the peripherals. I think I'm going to pick up a peizo speaker so I can have one handy for future builds. Thanks, T |
