Question Components in sync?

Here is my first attempt at a selection of components. The idea was to construct a stand alone (no need to connect to the net) basic machine so that my daughter could edit video. She has an external 1TB drive already.

She will be using Avid video editing software.

Motherboard BIOSTAR Intel BOXDG43NB LGA 775 Intel G43 ATX Intel Motherboard (accepts a Core 2 Duo processor)

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

Memory Kingston HyperX 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model KHX6400D2/2G

Video card PNY VCG951024GXEB GeForce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Power Supply: Hec X-Power Pro 600 600W Continuous @ 40°C ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

This is all needed to sync with ATX NVidia. The memory will start with 2GB and can expand to 4GB.

I have a second hard drive, cases, extra internal fans, a floppy drive and two firewire cards (800FW card).

The question is will any of these not work with each other. I will run XP and the ain program with be Avid.

Motherboard: Biostars can be good or bad depending on model. An Asus P5KPL-CM is a good choice for a buget build. It has on-board video and a video card slot.
Memory: would look to Corsair XMS 800 and get the ram in pairs.
PSU: FSP 500w would work fine fore your built-better quality and plenty of power
Your orginal build list is compatable.

Perhaps a silly question, but does video *editing* need a beefy video card?

No it needs a beefy processor, lots of RAM and mid range video card with a lot of memory.

Khalil, thanks for your help. Funny but I was looking at Corsair RAM after I posted my list. I'll buy them in a air and start with 4MB instead of the 2MB I had planned. I am a bit lost on motheboards so I am taking a hard look at your suggestion of the ASUS board. Will my original build list (with the Corsars) all work with the ASUS board you sugested?

She will be running Avid and her data is on a 1TB external drive.

One more question- does this ASUS MB have a firewire port and if I want to (or need to) ad a firewire card, which one do you suggest. I'd need one that at least works with Avid and that's one rated at 400 (I'd add another that is a combo with 800).

What do you think?
