Some hiccups in new build. Advice needed.
Had not done a built for more than a year and did one today.
4 questions that i need help on 1) Would to know if my SATA HDD configured as IDE is optimal ? When I change it to AHCP, system will not boot. 2) Bios list HDD as 500gig correctly but when installing windows, wndows recognised it as only 131Gig. How to fix this problem ? 3) I accidentally dragged the IE quicklaunch icon into the desktop. COuld not drag it back. How do I make a new IE icon in the quicklaunch bar ? 4) Had problems installing Cisco VPN client (hanged) so terminated the process (did this twice using 2 versions) and now end with 2 additional local network connections. How do I delete them ? System Info Asus P5Q-EM with E8400, using onboard graphics. Seagate 500Gig 7200rpm SATA (OS is on this drive), Seagate 320Gig IDE, 2x2Gig RAM, Silent Elements 500W PS, LG Supermulti 22x drive.

1) If you want to use it as achi, you need to install drivers before the os (if using xp). Once the os is installed you can't change it unless you want to do a reinstall. Ide emulation works just fine though. I use it with no problems.
2) I'm going to say this has to do with a os limitation. What sp do you have with xp? That might be a problem with pre sp1. 3) You should be able to drag it back. 4) no idea.

1) Will leave it as then
2) You are right. After updating to SP3, the missing Gigs reappeared. 3) Silly me. I think thats because I locked the taskbar. 4) Deleted the Cisco VPN connections from Device Manager but left with Determinstic Network Ehnancer Miniport that when deleting Windows prompt that its needed. However, I know that was installed together with the VPN and so disabled it. Not sure why its such a toughie to delete. Still trying to figure out why Cisco VPN hangs during installation that cause all the problems. Will ask in another section of the forum instead of here. Thanks for sharing Shadowpr. |
