First time gaming build

hello,
i have always had a major intrest in computers and especially gaming.
i have always bought new computers from bestbuy and my friends have always build theres and when they would come to game at my house they would luagh at my so called elite computer from best buy.
so i now have alot of free time on my hands and would like to make myself a nice high proformance cheap gaming computer build
i have been searching for what to do for a long time and iv decided im either gonna buy a Barebone kit. or just free style it on my own.
i have a good idea on the stuff i need but i would like to have a second opinion so if i could get a nice list of what i need and a estimated price of the entire build that would be great
not looking to spend more than 800 dollars will go lower though.

Some tips on assembly...

Be patient, take your time

Have a reference guide handy, a guide to building a computer for example

Read through the motherboard manual thoroughly

Build the computer out of the case first, these instructions are good: Having problems with a new build? Try this.

When installing the motherboard, make sure all cables are out of the way and there is nothing putting pressure on the motherboard, most problems with a build happen with a short in the motherboard which is caused by improper placement in the case; a short in the motherboard is not fatal, however the computer will not start up properly and will require the motherboard to be reinstalled.

If you have any problems with the build, post back here.

Good luck with your new build

You seem to be missing a motherboard, I would go for a Phenom II X4 combo with a motherboard since it provides a lot of power and saves about $70 over buying the processor and motherboard seperately, a less expensive motherboard/cpu combo would be: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.212720

For the most part Antec cases are a decent bit better than Apevia cases and the Apevia case seems to be more expensive than the Antec I linked to above (getting mail in rebates is tricky). You can save $10 by going with the same Antec case without the two front fans: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129042

You can save $10 if you don't need a Windows 7 Upgrade coupon: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116485

If you need to lower the price more, going down to the HD4850 won't reduce the performance by much and costs $50 less:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161244

As I had stated in several other threads recently. OCZ power supplies are having issues, we had to send back 13 units in the last 3 weeks for RMA. I advise you buy an FSP, Sea Sonic or a Corsair.

I've been using OCZ power supplies for the last few years with no problems, I've also checked around and have found them to be reliable. I have read nothing that indicates that OCZ is having power supply issues. Bad batches or shipping are a possible reason for Khalil's problems with OCZ power supplies.

I have used them for years without a problem, this is just in the last 3 months, they turn on but die under load while we are testing them. The last 3 that died were all 1000W units, they had them at a very attractive price so I picked up 6, after 3 failing and 10 others earlier I stopped ordering them.
I find it odd how they lowered their prices so drasticaly recently too.

If you would prefer a non-OCZ unit, this antec 650W is good and sells for under $80: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371015

Finally a good recommendation lol
However, glc's recommendation is much better. I would go with the Corsair over the Antec any day of the week!!
