cpu intel fan installation problem

I order parts yesterday and got them today. After installing i7 cpu, i attached the fan and pressed on all 4 corners per manual instruction. One of the corners didn't lock Which i didn't notice till i turn on the computer and it gave m the 85c warning..ops

Question:Been that fan and cpu come together, if i want to get fan replaced under warranty i would need rma both the cpu and the fan or would calling intel result in them just sending me a new fan?

Err, is it actually broken? I know those Intel HSFs can be a pain, but usually if you work with them you can get them all in eventually. Try pushing the tough one in first.

Ye looks broken. I am not going to take a chances, especially not with i7 being that it already runs hot to being with. Going to get aftermarket fan and redo the themal paste on cpu with article silver 5. Rather spent extra $20 and have good systehm then having problem with heat down the line.

If you get the stock fan on properly you won't have a problem with heat if you run it at stock speeds. Intel provides those fans with a warranty for a reason: they tested them.

That should help a bit if it's similar style pins.

In the future i would love to o/c it. For now, I am going to rma it back to newegg and get my self new one. Don't want to take a chances that as result of the fan failure the cpu is damaged and will die on me in the near future. Better safe then sorry. I can wait a week extra to get my baby up and running Will give me an extra time to get wiring all nice in the case

Lightbulb instalation trick

Intel CPU fans can be trike to install, more so if the mobo is already mounted. try this, first make sure all pins are in all holes. i start at one corner and press down just a Little. go all the way around doing this. when you are sure they are all going into the holes right go back around and lock them down. now for the trick, this will require a flat headed screwdriver. start at one corner and unlock it. leave the other 3 locked. use your fingers or something and raise the tab back up and twist it back to the locked position. you should only have to turn it a quarter turn or so each way. find a spot on the CPU coolers foot you can reach with the screw driver or something and press it down firmly against the board. while holding perisher on foot push tab back down. repeat for other feet doing one at a time. note, i have a large case and small hands this might not work for all.
