New Build Problem... No Display
UPDATE: So I borrowed an old pos graphics card from a neighbor and it worked and I got a display on my monitor. Therefore it must be my graphics card. Is there anything I can try to get it to work or is it just a faulty graphics card?
Okay. So I initially built it with everything in the case. I got everything hooked up and then turned it on. All the fans started spinning (including cpu and gpu). The optical drive was active as well as the hard drive. I got power to my keyboard and mouse as well. However, nothing would display on the monitor. I then tried to rebuild it with everything out of the case as normally instructed to. I set up the motherboard, gpu, 1 stick of ram, cpu with heatsink, and connected the monitor. Again, I got no display. Just ask if you need to know anything I didn't provide. Any help is very appreciated as this is my first build and it is a little frustrating. System Specs: Asus P5Q Pro Turbo Intel Q9550 Quad Core Processor Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4890 G.Skill 2x2gb RAM 1066 x2 (although I never even opened the second set yet) WD Cavier Black 500GB WD Cavier Black 1TB (for data sotrage, never hooked to motherboard) Sony Optical Antec 900 w/ 650w PSU Asus 21.5" LCD Monitor EDIT: Do I plug an 8-pin or 4-pin power connector into the second power cord slot on the motherboard? It's an 8-pin connector on the motherboard, but it originially had 4 of the pins covered by a black piece of plastic (like a gaurd). EDIT 2: I read somewhere you have to have special PCI-E power cables to plug into the video card. My power supply has one PCI-E power cable that is labeled for PCI-E. It is a 6-pin with a free 2-pin (to make it an 8-pin). Other than that there is just a 4, 6, and 8 pin power cable. I just plugged in the other standard 6-pin power cable to the other power connector on my video card. Last edited by JMesser91; 07-30-2009 at 08:49 PM. |

You need the 8 pin on the mobo with a quad core. You also need to use all connectors on the video card itself.
