E8400 or Q6600 for Flight Simulator

Hi guys,

My current rig is in my signature. I noticed a huge improvement in frame rate playing FSX (a real resource hog game let me tell you) when I bumped my Q6600 from 2.4 to 2.6 or 2.8. I'm wondering if I'd be better off with a E8400 dual core at 3Ghz vs my Q6600 overclocked to 2.6ghz.

Is it me or are quad cores somewhat a fad that never materialized to their full potential? What applications really offer superior performance in a quad core environment?

Go for the e8400. The Q6600 is somewhat weak. I wouldn't recommend a quad that's anything less than a Q9950. GHz isn't everything these days.
