First time. Any suggestions?
Im looking to build my first computer. Let me know if you think this is a good set up. Im trying to stay in the price range i have here but im always willing adjust. I play a few games (nothing intense) I watch movies and I also use some CAD programs.

Welcome to PCMech.
Your RAM is overkill, quality DDR2-800 would be fine. We recommend Corsair brand. Most importantly, go with a higher quality power supply. Corsair brand again is a winner. I'd go with a DVD Burner that comes with software. Don't forget a copy of Windows if you don't have one yet.

The 400w would be fine for the system as it stands now. You might consider the 550w though, it will give you room for a future upgrade, especially if you think you'll add a stronger video card later.

Save some money and get a P45 series motherboard - such as an Asus P5Q.

Do I want the PSU fan blowing up towards the top of the case or towards the bottom?
I am using a Rosewill Wind Knight Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with pre-installed 2x 120mm Fan. The case has a vent right below the PSU. |

In that case, the PSU mounts on the bottom of the case. So you want the PSU fan to face upward.

Not necessarily - the PSU will only mount one way.
