Loose Wire on My ATX 24-Pin Connector

How do I reattach the wire? I don't know how to get the metal piece out without damaging the connector.

Thanks.

There are little barbs on the metal piece that spring out to hold it in place. You should be able to pry them back enough to slide the metal piece back out of the plastic connector body. Connector styles vary so it may be difficult to impossible to access the barbs without surgery.

Which wire came out? What are the brand and model of the power supply? What mobo/CPU/video card do you have? It may not be worth the effort to fix this one...

Don't know. Can't see the label without pulling it out. It's a 400W that came with the case which is a POWMAX CP2039.

The system is put together with all brand new parts. It hasn't even been booted up yet.

you will need a special pin extractor tool to get the pinout. Seeing that the PSU is probably a POWMAX, wouldn't bother trying to fix it. That case and PSU combo looks to cost around $30. At that price, you have a $30 case with a PSU worth nothing. Do your self a favor and pick up a quality PSU.

They call it POWmax for a reason..................................

Honestly, one of the worst power supplies on the market. It's doing you a favor by not letting you turn it on to go POW and fry the rest of your components.

Post the specs of the other components and we can recommend a quality replacement.

Makes your system go POW causing MAX damage to your components? Well, let's see how I did with the rest of the bits and pieces.

Motherboard:
ECS EliteGroup P45T-AD3

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Quad processor Q8200

Optical Drive:
SATA LG 22X DVD Burner GH22NS

HD:
Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB WD6400AAKS SATA/300 7200RPM 16MB

Mem:
2x 2GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM

Video Card:
Sapphire Radeon HD 4550

So based on the above what's the recommend PSU?

Thanks.

Ok, ECS is the worst motherboard on the market hands down, if there is a way you could return it and get an Asus P5Q Turbo with the same chipset, I highly recommend it. Did you buy this combo at Tigerdirect by any chance?
DDR3 with P45 is a waste of time, I would send back the DDR3 and get DDR2 800 memory, Corsair or Kingston is what I recommend.
You need a good brand power supply if you want any longevity from your system.
For your system I recommend the following:

I wish you had asked for advice here BEFORE you bought those components...........................

The rest of those components should be usable, but are far from ideal. This PSU would do the job, and after the promo code it's only $34.99 with free shipping:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371023

Do yourself a favor and stay away from Tiger Direct.
