Question Jumper setting on WD SATA HD - very confused!!!

I am building a new computer. I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard. I’m installing two (2) Western Digital SATA hard drives (WD10000CSRT, 1 TB each drive). I would like to put the operating system on one HD. I’m planning to use the other HD as a “dump” drive. That is – storage only. Question: I’m assuming that I leave the HD for the OP system alone. But how do I set the jumper for the “dump” drive? I am very confused!!! Please help.

There are no jumpers on SATA drives. Nor can they be set as master and slave. The order is determined by the SATA header that they are attached to. When Installing the drives simply install the os drive and install the os to it. Then connect the additional drives.

SATA drives require no jumpers *unless* you have a SATA 3.0 drive and your motherboard has SATA 1.5 connectors.

Sometimes SATA 3.0 drives will work on SATA 1.5 ports without a jumper. Its pretty much luck of the draw. My Adaptec RAID cards are SATA 1.5, and Im running my SATA 3.0 drives jumperless no problem.

Bottom line, with that motherboard, do not touch the jumpers on the drives, leave them as installed by the factory. The only brand of SATA drives that need to be checked are Seagates, because they ship with the 1.5 jumper in place.
