Finally ready to build a new system, need your advices...

First of all, thanks to everyone on this forum. I was able to build two systems, one for myself and one for my brother, a few years back all due to the help received here!

Now I've finally outgrown my 7 years old system and are ready to build myself a new one. I'm a freelance multimedia developer working mostly with Adobe suite, as well as Microsoft Visual Studio suite. So multi-tasking would be a big plus to me since I usually have many applications running at the same time. I'm not a gamer at all but I do watch DVD on my desktop from time to time.

I would like to reuse some old parts, such as keyboard, mouse, speaker, etc. BTW, I already pre-ordered Windows 7 upgrades, so this system would be upgraded to Windows 7 when it's available. FYI my budget would be around $1000. Here's what I've compiled so far, your suggestions and advices are very much appreciated!

Looks like a good list. As for the open spots:

I'd go with a DVD-ROM drive. That way you can copy anything on the fly.

Most people skip the floppy drive these days. I'd pick up a combination floppy/card reader instead.

Modems aren't needed unless you have dialup.

Thanks, Alaron. I'm not too familiar with SATA DVD-ROM drive, any good one in your mind?

A combination of floppy and card reader is a very good idea! I want the modem so in case my ADSL is down, I would have at least some sort of connection. Also, it could be used as a fax modem as well.
