Custom Build Problem
OK so i know a reasonable amount about computers enough to be confident to try my hand at making my own computer for the first time a couple of weeks ago.I had a few minor hicups but nothing too major, but now i have hit a wall. The computer has decided not to power on at all. These are the parts i used in my build .....
Intel Motherboard Bundle: http://www.awd-it.co.uk/scripts/prod...idproduct=6706 *note the cpu is over clocked Nvidia 9600GT: http://www.awd-it.co.uk/scripts/prod...idproduct=3523 Heat Sink: http://www.awd-it.co.uk/scripts/prod...idproduct=6594 Case: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...h/FANTASY.html *not the psu just the case Psu: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...700SXS-UN.html I have a 200gb Maxtor Sata Hard Drive from my old pc and disk draw When i first put all the components together it worked perfectly, then i tried starting it up the next day and it just wouldnt start so i tinkered around with a few things and still nothing, so i sent the motherboard back for testing it was tested and it worked fine. I got the motherboard back yesterday set it all up again and it worked fine then about 2 hours later it cut out and it wouldnt turn back on.I removed the battery from the motherboard put it back in and it started working again for the rest of the night.Woke up this morning and its not turning on again so i tried removing the battery again and this time the battery trick did not work.As far as i can tell all the components are functioning properly and i really have no idea where to go next to even attempt to fix the problem. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. If u need any more information just leave a post and i will get back to you asap. |

If it doesn't power on at all, then try swapping out the psu for know working one...

That's a scary answer.... Maybe we can help. The system has to be able to get thru the POST test. That's where it beeps once and starts displaying just text, white on black. You need to press the key for going to setup, usually says at the bottom of the screen. For my system it is Del button, others are F-keys. There will be options in Advanced Chipset or PC health or something like that pages. Don't know on newer Intel boards. Talk to the outfit you bought it from on what they did to set the OC and then turn it back down to stock speed, probably the FSB or front-side bus speed.
Good Luck. Last edited by systempat; 09-11-2009 at 03:00 PM. |

If you can't get to the bios, then remove the battery for 5min that will set every thing to default..

Since they tested it and it works according to whoever tested it, maybe you are assembling it wrong in the case or the power supply is not good enough. I am not a fan of overclocking. I would rather pay more and get a better processor.
You might not have seated the heatsink correctly or the motherboard or the video card may be shorting out (Touching Metal). Check where all the metal posts are. One technique is to test it outside of the case on some cardboard. If it works then it is the mounting technique or the overclock. Did you plug in all of the motherboard power plugs? Should be 2 of them. |

Time to do a out of the case build if all else has failed.
Having problems with a new build? Try this. |
