System freezes fast on first-time build

K, so I have everything working fine, everything is connected and installed (the only things i haven't put in are the floppy drive and the little speaker..), however, the first time i started into windows, and every time after, it suddenly freezes at a random point, whether at the welcome screen, or a few seconds after it's loaded AFTER the welcome screen... any help? :/

here are my specs:

Motherboard: EVGA nForce SLI Socket 775
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33Ghz 4MB
OS: Vista Premium 64-bit
RAM: OCZ SLI 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz (2x2048)
HD: WD Caviar Green 1TB 32MB/SATA-3G
PS: Apevia ATX - IB680W-GN (Iceberg) 680W
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB

Not sure how to check the temperature, but if it has anything to do with the numbers that appear on the motherboard, they're usually at around 32.. But the system is quite cool compared to otehr computers I've had, it's got 2 80mm and 1 120mm case fans, plus the processor, VC, and the 2 PS fans, I'd say heat's not the problem..

Send a message via AIM to dabro15
Try a different PSU, Apevia are not the most stable and I wouldn't be suprised if that was the problem.

hmm that's probably it, as I've tried using one stick of RAM at a time, and they both work, but it looks like the PSU can't handle two at the same time. Am I in the right direction?

If it works okay with one stick at a time, I think it's more a ram or motherboard issue. Nvidia chipsets for Intel can be picky and less than fully stable, and it may not like certain ram combinations, speeds, and voltages. EVGA motherboards aren't the most reliable either, unlike their excellent videocards.

What are the voltage specs on that ram? What voltage is it running at? Have you run memtest?

On the stick of RAM they both say 5-4-4 @ 2.1 V, I'm guessing that's the voltage? Also, I checked on that memtest, and somebody's gonna have to explain how to use it... I'm totally lost XD

Is the ram set to 2.1 volts in the bios?

Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)

Unzip it, then use a CD burning program to burn the iso to a blank CD. You don't just copy the iso to the CD, you need a program such as Nero to open it as an image and burn it. If you don't have one, Imgburn is free. Then you boot with the CD.

ok, I ran the memtest twice, and no errors were found on either sticks (this was with both of them in the motherboard at the same time, should I do one at a time?)
also, Is the voltage you're talking about the "memory" voltage under "system voltages" in the CMOS Setup Utility? it's auto is 1.900V

If the ram says 2.1v on it, and the auto function in the bios is setting it to 1.9v, try manually increasing it to 2.1v.
