Gaming PC AMD or Intel

Heyo looking for some advice on what you guys think i should throw into a gaming PC. I personally have heard Intel is slightly better so i'm kinda leaning towards that but i am not opposed to getting AMD at all. I'm looking to put out about $1200 unless you think thats not enough to build a nice rig. So... $1200 AMD or Intel, just the tower. Thanks!

I would hold on to the cash for a few more weeks until the latest ATI/AMD cards come out.
If the reviews are good, and it looks like they will be, then I'd balance the processor choice against the graphics card.
That should get you the best rig possible for a $1200 investment.
If it looks like buying an older card is still a good bet you'll be able to do that to but you'll have all the current information you need to make the best choice.

Either way, they are both good. Some people will say Intel is better others will say AMD is better they are both good.
For a gamning PC your video card and power supply is what matters the most. I highly recommend you go with an ATI Asus 4890 video card and a Sea Sonic 650W power supply.
With your budget you can go either AMD AM3 955 Quad Core or an Intel Q9550 Quad Core. For motherboards if you go with AMD go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131402 if you decide to go Intel I would go with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-377-_-Product
Either way go with DDR2 800 memory, 4Gig would be good. For a hard drive your best best is WD Black. The rest is easy to choose!

What about graphics? And the raptor i heard about... but it seems so low on GB so i guess i would need a 2nd hard drive? I kinda just want a complete list of what people think i should get... ideally i would want a tower, os, keyboard, monitor, for like 14 or 1500

Like I said, the pre-release buzz for the new ATI/AMD cards is for really good things so just wait for the reviews. Why under-go buyers remorse if you don't have to ?

With their large cache standard drives have pretty much eliminated the advantage Raptors have for gaming and they're certainly cheaper.

Windows 7 comes out October 22 complete with DX 11 and if you're a student you can get a copy for $30 through your school.

A 24" LCD monitor Like this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236049

is what you should look for.

Provided you get a decent power supply a case is entirely a matter of personal taste as is a keyboard.

Your going to love that motherboard. Just built one with my neibors son and it one of the best I have built in terms of quality and features. Same CPU, hard drive, I went with a seasonic power supply but yours is fine. I am not a big amd guy but I went with a build Khalil suggested and I am glad I did.

For best results, match up your wireless card to your router - same brand and type. PCI is *ALWAYS* better than USB for a desktop computer.

With a reasonably fast CPU, your gaming bottleneck (your limiting factor) will be your graphics card. For a gaming machine, what you never want to do is to get a badass CPU and then scrimp on your graphics card.

No, the 4870 is a damn fast card and will play 98% of the games out there fast enough. That card is at a nice price/performance point. You cant get better without spending a lot more money. You made a good choice. I was more philosophizing to everyone than addressing your choice.

I agree with David M, I am still selling a lot of gaming rigs with the 4870 many play Crysis and other games as such with no issues at all. The 4890 is an improvement but I doubt you would even notice it. Jhovva17, What games do you play?

I think it shuts down though because when i start back up it asks me if i want to start in safe mode. HELP!!!

You need to take everything out of the case and do a bench test to see if the hardware repeats this problem. Most common reason for this happening is that there is a short somewhere in the case that is causing it.
You did go with the Corsair power supply you listed in your parts list, yes?
