Replacing Stock Heatsink & Fan

So the other day, I turn on my PC, and some fan was making a funny noise, I went to my kitchen grabbed a cup of coffee, came back to my PC and everything was fine. After about 3 hours of use, the PC Probe from ASUS screamed at me saying that my CPU TEMP WAS 90 DEGREES!!!! OMG.....So anyway I turned the comp off ASAP and waited a few minutes, took the sides off and started it back up....well the stock Intel heatsink and fan somehow had a broken clip.....so obviously I needed a new heatsink and fan.

Current Rig: Core 2 Quad Yorkfield 2.5GHz (Stock HSF), ASUS P5K-E P35 MoBo, Antec 900 Case

So:

1. I purchased this HSF based on reviews on newegg, and word of mouth:

ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler

is there anything I should watch out for/worry about the install?

and

2. Does anyone have any advise or can tell me of issues to avoid with installing an aftermarket HSF. I have been meanign to replace the crappy stock INTEL one with something better.

Most Important Question #3....How can I tell if I did any serious damage to my CPU....after all the room was really cool, and the chip was not too too hot to the touch, I did turn the PC on again today and it shot right up to 70 degrees, so the HSF is def shot.

Thanks as always,
Chris

Remove the motherboard from the case to install a HSF.

You can't hurt an Intel processor, it has automatic overheat shutdown.
