On the advice of a friend and after having done a bunch of research I have decided to build my own system. The problem is that I didn't find out about PCMech until after I purchased all my componets. I thought it might be a good idea to list everything I have and make sure there is nothing stupid waiting to happen when I finish putting it together and power it up. As follows is a list of the componets I have so far:
APEVIA X-TELSTAR-RD Red/ Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer CaseNo Power Supply EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard XFX HD-489A-ZDFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8D Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS 300GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive PLEXTOR Black 8X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA Internal BD Combo Model PX-B320SA LightScribe Support Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders w/ Tech Guarantee Is there any compatabilty or reliabilty problems with any of this? I plan on using the WD Velociraptor as the main HD and the caviar black for storage. I plan on using this computer for the usual office programs, internet, digital photograhphy, video and games. Any recomendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Chris |

Welcome to PCMech.
Patience please, this is not a chat room. ![]() Your list is fairly solid. We haven't been recommending the i7 platform as a whole just yet because you get so much bang for the buck with a Core 2 system, but what you have looks alright. I would have recommended an Asus motherboard over eVGA. Power Supply is excellent, good job there. Same for the hard drives. Raptors aren't really necessary, but WD is the way to go right now.

Thanks! My apologies for my impatience but I was beginning to think that by no responses I had something majorly FUBAR'd. One of the many things I have learned since joining is the preference for ASUS MOBO's, it looks like ANTEC is also the way to go with cases. Thats why I became a member is to learn. Looks like I'll go with what I have on this one. Thanks again!

The motherboard of choice here for 1366 is the Asus P6T Deluxe V2. We also recommend Asus and eVGA video cards over XFX.
In my opinion, Velociraptors are overpriced for what they are, and the same goes for Plextor these days. Plextors for the US market are made by Lite-On. Cases are personal preference, the power supply is what counts and you have picked a very good one. |

oops
Thanks for the additional info, wish I had found this sight BEFORE I had ordered everything. Hopefully I'll do better on parts selection on the next one.
