Literal Desktop computer
I am going to be building a computer in the near future and I thought it would be cool to literally build a computer INTO my desktop. This would be instead of having a case for the computer. I only had questions as to whether or not this is feasible. Will it last? Is it too ambitious? will cables be long enough? The biggest question was whether or not the computer would be able to handle being built into a desk and work for any extended period of time or is there something about computer cases that maybe protects them from static electricity or something?

I don't see why you couldn't - I run motherboards sitting on top of the table all the time. You do need to pay attention to cooling and component security (video card, etc.) and understand that there won't be any RF shielding.

thanks for the reply. I've never heard of RF sheilding. Is the lack of this going to be a problem?. i was thinking I would put under a glass pane flush with the wooden desk surface. I would drill holes in the wooden box with the computer in it for airflow and maybe even consider putting 2 120mm fans in it

Lack of RF shielding may cause some interference with nearby electronic devices.
