new build, 1000$ gaming PC, help!
Hi, i'd like some advise on a new build for a 1000$ gaming PC (budjet can be exceeded if needed). I'm starting from scratch so i need all the parts (monitor excluded). I'm looking for a PC that i can keep for 4-5 years. I'll probably buy the parts in one month on newegg.ca (i live in canada). I'd prefer intel based builds.
Any advice is welcome! |

I would start with a smallish monitor. Because you need a relatively expensive graphics cards to power the larger monitors, high pixel, and your budget does not provide for a large one. I would be inclined to go with a second generation dual core CPU like an Intel E8400, 2 gigs of DDR2 RAM and a smallish 100 Gig hard drive. Buy your OS OEM, either XP or Vista is fine. I would choose an ASUS board with an Intel chipset. A single 8800GT card would work for most games, but not all games. Or a Radeon card in the 200-300 price range should do ya. A quality 450 watt PSU will power most cards in this price category. Keep the cost of your case under $100. That should keep your build under $1000.
There are guarantees that in five years there will not be any new software out that you need your computer to be able to run. Five years is a long time as far as computer technology advances go.

The 8800GT has been discontinued for a while now.
David's advice is not current. |

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...rd,2404-7.html I would recommend something within a level or two of a 4870 (based on that chart), but I own one so I guess I am biased.
