"Sweet spot" gaming PC....Intel

GLC and others,

I saw you mention that overkill is not needed. I built my system spending around 2000$ for the tower alone, more than what is needed to hace a gaming PC. My brother wants an Intel build, based on the I5. Quality parts backed with a proven track record and tech support.

Have you or anyone else listed an I5 build that fits the sweet spot? I'd appreciate a link or maybe a list. I can look up the items myself if needed, what do you reccomend?

The system needs to be ready for anything to be thrown at it (gaming wise) for at least the next two years, knowing upgrades will be needed to keep up with newer items.

My brother is willing to buy the same set up I have, he's seen what my system does and loves it. I just feel, and he agrees, we could save some money and get a top notch PC.

Thanks,
Adam

Sure. You could do an i5 "sweet spot" build for $900-$1000 depending on which i5 model you went with (i5-750 or i7-860).

Motherboard - ASUS P7P55D - $150 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131404

CPU - i7 860 - $290 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115214

RAM - G.SKILL 2x2GB DDR3 - $79 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231190

PSU - Corsair 650W - $100 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

Case - Antec 900 (my favorite, pick your own if you don't like it) - $100 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021

HDD - WD Caviar Black 1TB - $95 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136284

Video Card - ATi Radeon 4870 1GB - $160 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121291

DVD Drive - LITE-ON 24x - $30 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106289

Total: $1004. You can save $90 by taking the processor down a notch (to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115215).
