General question about freezing
I've had my PC for about a month now. I really haven't done much to it. Basicially started it up, made sure everything was running. Installed win7 and have been messing around looking at what came with win7.
Last week I bought and installed Batman:AA. I've been running it about an hour a noght and it seems flawless. I'm very impressed!! Yesterday I was playing for about three and a half hours and it froze. Most of the bios settings are set to auto, I have tons of fans on this thing. All stock except for the big fan on the side of the case, I replaced the big fan with four 120mm fans. Could the settings in the bios be effecting the preformance? Is this common place for PC's and I should just be prepared for things like this to happen? Is it possibly the hardware is defective? Everything is brand new, minimal usage. I'm very new to gaming on PC's, been a console fanboy for years. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Adam Oh yeah, sorry if this is in the wrong forum. |

You say that most of the settings are set to Auto. Have you overclocked and moved up the speed settings or bumped the memory timings? Have you monitored the temps? The Asus board comes with a utility, used to be called Asus Probe, that can give the temp readings. It can be installed and puts an icon on the desktop so you can just click it to run. The CPU and system temps are what to check. If you've run the game for 30 minutes or an hour, check those temps and give us the readings.
I assume the list in your sig is the system that's having the problem. With that many fans it seems like it should not be heat, but it's easy to check. |

The X58 chipset has developed a reputation for being quite flaky and unstable. What speed is your ram, and what timings is it running? Need a link to the exact ram, please.

No, that's part of the problem. Run it at 1333/8/8/8/24, 1.65v. You will have to overclock the CPU to run it faster.
