First build
Hey guys, first off I want to say you do great work here
![]() I've been reading the forums over the past few months to get as much knowledge on current hardware as I can, with an eye towards eventually building my own computer. That magical time is now here ![]() My budget for the case and components has been £700, I don't need any peripherals for the time being. I've already got my OS (Win 7 for £65 was a bargain I couldn't ignore) I'm trying to get into PC gaming a little, other than that it'll be the same boring uses (Internet, music, work) CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 MOBO ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo RAM Corsair XMS2 800Mhz DDR2 4GB (2x2GB) GPU ASUS HD 4890 1GB HDD WD 750GB Caviar Black PSU Corsair 650W TX Series (I know this is a little bit of overkill, but it can't hurt can it? Plus it leaves room for future upgrades) Case Antec 300 Optical Drive Sony 24x DVD±RW DL SATA Drive All that comes out to ~£670 shipped (Prices on ebuyer fluctuate a little) Hoping to order everything at the latest on friday Thanks for any and all help in advance

Good parts list. As for the PSU, no it's not overkill. I like a 25% head room on PSUs so my max load isn't max output of the PSU.

Looks good, the Corsair TX series are very good power supplies and extra PSU headroom never hurts.

I have been using Vista 64 quite successfully. I have not been having 64 bit driver problems. From what I have been reading, Vista 64 drivers are compatible with Windows 7 64 bit. You do have the option of going back to 32 bit if you start experiencing 64 bit driver problems. I would at least give Windows 7 64 bit a try.

I did have a bit of trouble with Vista 64-bit I last used it a few years ago; however I recently got a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit preinstalled and it's working really well. There are still some problems with 64-bit like there isn't that much native 64-bit software (a big issue is there is no 64-bit flash plugin, you have to go with a 32-bit browser and plugin to get it working), but it's much better than a few years ago when 64-bit software was very hard to come by.
